Professors Feigh and German join 23 of their AE colleagues who are also AIAA Fellows

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics this month announced that AE professors Karen Feigh and Brian German have been elected Associate Fellows.

Each year, AIAA members elect Associate Fellows from nominations that include individuals who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics. This year, AIAA selected only 140 nationwide to join the Class of 2017 - just two from GT-AE. Both Feigh and German will be officially inducted in January 2017 during the AIAA SciTech Forum in Grapevine, Texas.

A member of the Georgia Tech Cognitive Engineering Center and the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines, Feigh focuses her research on design of cognitive work support systems for individuals and teams in dynamic socio-technical settings, including airline operations, air transportation systems, UAV and MAV ground control stations, mission control centers, and command and control centers. Her research interests include decision support system design and computational cognitive modeling for engineering designs. An associate professor, she earned her undergraduate and doctoral degrees at Georgia Tech, and her MPhil degree in aeronautics from Cranfield University, UK. She is the recipient of numerous honors, including: the AIAA, Wilbur and Orville Wright Graduate Award; the Zonta International, Amelia Earhart Fellowship; the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow; and the Marshall Scholarship.

Brian German

Associate AIAA Fellow

German is an associate professor and the associate director of the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL). His research areas are multidisciplinary design, multi-objective optimization, and decision methods applied to air vehicle design and systems engineering. German also conducts research in aerodynamic, propulsion, subsystem, and performance models suitable for aircraft concept studies. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a member of the AIAA Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) Technical Committee. German is a recipient of the Lockheed Martin Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award, the Outstanding Aerospace Engineering Professor Award from the Georgia Tech chapter of the Sigma Gamma Tau Aerospace Honor Society, and the Northrop Grumman Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award.
