Muhammad Farooq Bin Akram, Ph.D. 'AE 11, has been elected as an Associate Fellow by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). A former doctoral student of Regents Professor Dimitri Mavris, Akram earned his master's and doctoral degrees from the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering.

This year, AIAA selected 140 outstanding thinkers and researchers to join the Class of 2017, which will be officially inducted in January 2017 during the AIAA SciTech Forum in Grapevine, Texas. Each year, AIAA selects Associate Fellows from among nominations that include individuals who have made notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences, or technology of aeronautics or astronautics.

Akram is currently an associate professor at National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad. His research areas are uncertainty quantification and propagation techniques, development of advanced design methodologies, multidisciplinary design, and multi-objective optimization. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a member of the AIAA Design Engineering Technical Committee (DETC). Akram is a recipient of numerous awards in academia and research including the NUST President's Gold Medal (Aerodynamics), and the Chief of Air Staff Commendation for Outstanding Performance.
